You'd think I would know better by now....

As you know I booked the flights to Seville quite a while ago. You know how it goes: they have this amazing special but there's a deadline so you book as quick as you can to get a good deal. What happens a lot of the time is that a better deal comes out after you've booked, but I'm glad to say that so far that hasn't happened...

What did happen however is that I was in such a rush to get this deal I didn't really think about luggage. I haven't been on real holidays for a while, I've just been going to visit friends or family who've had a washing machine available so I didn't really need to bring too many clothes. Also Ryanair has restricted what you can carry on board, so now our handbags will have to go INTO the carry on. So, to make a long stry short Barbara (my sister) and I decided to look into checking one extra bag between us...

I log into my booking through the Ryanair website. I add ONE bag, to MY name. Suddenly BOTH of us have to check in at the airport, even though one of us could check in online no problem as there are no bags to be checked in. And for those who don't get it yet: checking in online COSTS MONEY, so basically what it all comes down to is this: to take one extra suitcase we have to pay €40,- EXTRA!!! (€10,- each way for the bag and €10,- each for checking in online...) What a rip-off! Anyway, one good thing about all this: I have a good excuse to buy myself some nice shoes as there's heaps of room and I have to make my money back somehow!

Man, 'low cost' airlines really know how to turn the hidden screws. I had to be real careful about putting ALL my weighty stuff in my hand luggage on Air Asia recently to stop my ticket price from near doubling on baggage weight allowance. Of all the offenders Ryannair and their bullish CO Mr O'Leary are the most notorious it seems!
