I happened to be visiting my friend in Aliso Viejo in mid July, besides sight seeing, he had arranged to take me wine tasting at his friend's wine shop called "From the Vine wine Boutique" in Laguna Niguel. From the Vine Wine Boutique is a family owned and operated business (Mother and Daughter), it is one of the few wine shops that features a limited production of wines from family owned vineyards. I was honored to meet both mother and daughter on this visit. They had an Australian Tasting on this Friday evening with both matured and newer red and whites ranging from 2000-2006.
Tasting notes included a selection of 5 wines:
2005 White Blend ‘Crossing’ (Langhorn): 64 percent Chardonnay, 23 percent Reisling, 13 percent Verdelho, 13 percent crisp, fresh unwooded style displaying attractive fruit salad aromas and tropical flavors. Touch of sweetness only. Best enjoyed with Chicken Salad or Waldorf Salad. The cost of this bottle was $10.50, I did not particularly care for it.
2005 Shiraz ‘Lights Out’ (Ross): Deep crimson in color, the nose exhibits attractive ripe, sweet black cherry and mulberry, enhanced by traces of American oak. The palate is warm and soft with flavors of buttery toast, black cherry, black currant and liquorice with long cherry tannin finish. Cost $ 16.99. This was a fair taste, I could stand a glass or two but no more. An acquired taste I thought, but most everyone tasting thought it was pretty good.
2006 Red Blend ‘Ball Buster’ (Tait): 78 percent Shiraz, 12 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 percent Merlot. The Color is deep black purple with a nose of intense black currant, stewed plums, cherry and chocolate. Full bodied berry palate with a sweet long lasting finish. Cost $ 16.99
2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Jenke): A huge nose of ripe black currants, mulberries and dark cherries enhanced by some toasty oak and dusty tannin. This is a big flavorsome wine, with supple perfume cassis aroma, lovely dark hues and a powerful mouth filling palate of beautiful seamless flavors of sweet dark fruit characters. Cost $21.99
2004 Grenache “Gomersol” (Magpie): Showing a great concentration of fruit, pepper, spice and integrated oak. Richly textured on the palate it is powerful, yet soft and elegant. Cost $49.99
