Windsor Park Walk

Windsor Travel Blog › entry 10 of 15 › view all entries

Will get back to this once I have finished the busy period of my degree. VERY incomplete at the moment, sorry! Introducing sights, landmarks and things to do in London and some interesting places further afield

Windsor Park Walk

Windsor park is, as you would expect, right next to the town Windsor and Windsor castle. It is quite big and apparently has quite a bit of wildlife although I haven't seen very much of it myself yet. From the hill further away from Windsor you have a beautiful view over the surrounding landscape and can see directly down to Windsor castle. If you have good binoculars, maybe you can spot the queen waving from a window when she's in ;-) I mainly like staying on that side of the park though, under the statue of the King, and have a nice leisurely picnic, enjoying the view. It's a nice place to relax and jist sit around for a bit and take it easy.

Windsor is not far outside London, to its west. Every time I have been there it has been quite busy, with many tourists having a look at Windsor castle and Eton college. These two are of course Windor's main attractions. But there are also less well-known little 'sights', such as the crooked teahouse, for example. It is like a tiny version of the leaning tower of Pisa - leaning very much to the left if you stand in front of it. But unlike the tower of Pisa you can also have tea there, which can mean anything from just a cup of your favourite kind of tea to a tower stacked with sandwiches and scones as well as tea. Windsor also has several restaurants and shops - not all of them touristy - some of which are in the covered old train station.

The Crooked House is a small teahouse that serves traditional afternoon tea, just a few yards away from Windsor Castle. According to their little leaflet, the Crooked House is crooked because it was restructured with unseasoned green oak. It feels really tiny inside, where you can have your tea either upstairs or downstairs. Afternoon tea here can mean anything from literally just tea, to tea and scones or cake, to a whole rack full of cake, scones and sandwiches. Because it is near such a tourist hotspot (and in itself famous for its tilt) the prices are unfortunately comparatively high.
