Stein's Biergarten

Richmond upon Thames Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Will get back to this once I have finished the busy period of my degree. VERY incomplete at the moment, sorry! Introducing sights, landmarks and things to do in London and some interesting places further afield
Stein's beer garden in Richmond is a German restaurant and, well... beer garden by the river Thames. From the road it's a little difficult to find but if you walk along the river you can't miss it. The food is good and the portions quite generous considering German food can be quite filling. Rather than having a waiter take your order, it works a little bit like a fast food place in that you go to the till and place your order, then they bring it to you. You can of course order beer or other alcoholic beverages, but only if you also have some food. I guess that's to avoid having the whole place full of people who just want to get drunk.

Because it's set up like a German beer garden you may have to share your bench and table with other people, especially as it seems to be quite popular and busy when the weather is nice. There is no indoors area, so it doesn't seem to be open in the colder or wetter months.

It is definitely an authentic German place, run by the Stein family and frequented also by some members of the German community in Richmond. It's definitely a place I'd like to go back to, also to "acclimatise" my British friends to Germany before we visit ;-)
