having breakfast, :P
The train doesn't go straight to Aguas Calientes - the closest station to Machu Picchu - but stops in Ollantaytambo, which belongs to the Sacred Valley. An 1hr after we left Cusco we arrived to Ollantaytambo and some people boarded the train, but we still had a free space in front of us :P

Around 7am they serve breakfast. The train included something called the Inti Raymi breakfast, haha. We had already had breakfast, but it was at 4:30am!!! This breakfast had assorted breads, muffin, cheese, ham and beverages. Eric and the Swiss guy got juice and I got a cup of coca tea. I didn't have hunger, just wanted to drink something warm :)

During the whole ride you can see how the landscape changes.
an Inca Bridge - the one you cross when you start the Inca Trail ;)
Cusco is not a big city, but even though the contrast from the city and the countryside is high. Also Cusco is higher and you can see how the vegetation and scenery change while you are getting closer to Machu Picchu. The Sacred valley is famous for their big corn and it's not difficult to see many cornfields while you are going through the valley.

Also in Ollantaytambo you can see terraces from the Inca times, but they are still being used by the local farmers. When you do the Inca Trail, you usually start the trekking here. Crossing an inca bridge, which I recognized :) The landscape becomes more and more green while you are getting closer to Aguas Calientes which practically belongs to the Rain Forest.

All the passengers woke up so early to catch the train, that I'm pretty sure that at some point everyone was sleeping, haha. Who couldn't fall asleep if you are surrounded by such a beautiful scenery? :)
