We were the 1st ones who arrived to the restaurant. I got some fresh fruit, a slice of cheese and smoked salmon. Eric got cheese, ham, bread, yogurt and cereal. As we sat a waiter came asking us if we wanted to drink anything and bringing us the New York Times. Oh! they also served omelets and scrambled eggs. Eric asked for scrambled eggs and I got a veggie omelet. Eric was reading while I was enjoying a nice cup of coffee. After having breakfast we went upstairs and brought our stuff to the lobby.
We did the check out and left our stuff in the storage room. Our plan was coming back after the climbing, take a shower and then go to Aguas Calientes. We might get something for lunch down there, since we have already had our 3 meals... well, everything was ready, so it was time to start the Wayna Picchu adventure, hurra!!!
We decided to go straight to the Wayna Picchu and in our way back visit the city itself. We wanted to arrive to the top as soon as possible, before it got crowded. At the entrance of the Wayna Picchu road you have to sign, so they will register your entrance and will know if somebody is missing. It was 7:25 when we started to climb.
The trekking wasn't short.
Machu Picchu is at a semi-tropical land, highland jungle, about 2,100m high. But Wayna Picchu is almost 2,700m high.
After almost 30min, we started our way down, stopping everywhere we saw something interesting. I wanted to take pics and also take a break, haha. In our way we met people from different parts of the world.
Around 10am we were back at the entrance of Wayna Picchu. By the time we were leaving there was a line from people wanting to climb to the mountain. So good, we did it early, yay! Now, we had time to walk around the city, chill out and enjoy the sunny day without rushing. Since we both have already been in Machu Picchu, we didn't ask for a guide and decided to go through the city just by our own.
We were taking pics and relaxing. It was almost noon and we decided to go back to the hotel and take a shower before going to Aguas Calientes. Before leaving Machu Picchu I felt something in my legs.
First thing we did at the hotel, well after claiming for our bags, was getting a cold beer. This cuzquena was really refreshing, haha. We have already done the check out, but they still gave us all the drinks we wanted, haha. Then we went to the terrace to the common lounge and met the couple we met last night during dinner. They were also chilling out before going back to Aguas Calientes. They visited Machu Picchu the day before and right now, they were just enjoying the hotel.
After a refreshing shower and feeling renewed we went back to the bar - restaurant. We had already had our 3 meals, but it wouldn't hurt asking them if we could have lunch, furthermore there was this plastic incident, haha.
This time we had for lunch just 1 dish. I went for an appetizer: a cebiche!!! and Eric got a hamburger with bacon. And to drink? Inca Kola!!! We were full, but we asked if the dessert chef was there and he was there. So we'd try another dessert, haha. Why not?
This time Eric got a Hot Apple tart with vanilla ice cream and I got a Rice pudding mille feuille. Both of them were really tasty. One more time, the desserts here are awesome! Well, it was getting time to leave.
Before leaving they gave us a couple of bottles of water for the ride. We were about going to the bus stop and a guy came calling for Mr. Bertram. They wanted to give him a cd with some pictures. How nice!
It was supposed to be the rainy season, but the day was so sunny, until... the minute we got our bus ticket we started to feel some drops. Rain waited for us to leave in order to start, haha. Thank you to the Apus!!! (Apus = Inca gods)
