yay! I'm staying at the Sanctuary Lodge, yay!
It was almost 11am when we arrived to the gorgeous Sanctuary Lodge. Check in was at 12, so we had free time. The Sanctuary Lodge has 2 restaurants, one just for the guests and other one that's open for everybody. We were taken to the second one. One of the bellboys came and asked for our luggage, well we didn't have any, haha. Then a waiter came with complimentary coca tea and cookies, sweet! I like to be treat this way :)

Then a boy came with the registration forms and we were ready. Before going to the rooms he was explaining us what the accommodation included: 3 meals (lunch, dinner & breakfast), a 30min massage, all you can drink, plus the amenities of the hotel. It wasn't noon yet, but our room was already ready, so let's go. I don't know why, but we were upgraded to a better room.
wonderful view!
We were supposed to stay in one with view of the "Japanese Gardens", but when we were in the way to our room, the bellboy was saying that we had a really nice room. I was thinking, he might say the same to every guest, but we got a room with a nice view of the Wayna Picchu, cool!!!!

We had a complimentary massage waiting for us, mmm. Would we take it right now? Sure! But before doing it, it'd be better getting the entrances to Machu Picchu. So the next day we wouldn't have to worry about it and go straight to the park. The ticket office was almost next door to the hotel, haha. We got the tickets - of course as a Peruvian I got a discount ;) - and went back for our massages.
taking some sun...
They were 30min massages and I went first. I met a guy before going inside and he told me the massages were really good and he didn't lie. They were perfect. I was so relaxed after them, haha.

Around 1pm, we both were ready, so relaxed and fresh. We could have gone for lunch, but weren't hungry plus we wanted to explore the hotel. Well, they have a nice terrace with a wonderful view of the mountains and it was sunny and perfect. You can also see some waterfalls and beautiful gardens with different plants and flowers. Really nice orchids. Also there is a nice common room with 2 showers, which you can use even though you have already done the check out, mmm. We'd keep that in mind for the next day after the trekking. We took a walk around and enjoyed the fresh air.
first pisco sour in Machu Picchu :)
That view was awesome!

Ok, it was time for lunch. The accommodation included the meals. And we were able to take lunch either in the private restaurant or the buffet one. We checked the buffet and looked nice, so we went for it. Most of the people staying at the hotel are older, so we were an exception, haha. That's why the waiter asked us twice if we were staying at the hotel. Sure, we are guests here! Eric asked for our Pisco Sours - of course we had to get Pisco Sours here! And while he was bringing them, we went for the food.

There was a table with different cold dishes for appetizers, soup, hot dishes for entrees and of course desserts. Oh! I have been missing my cebiche so bad last week, that I got it! Plus a traditional salad with lima beans - which according to Eric taste like cardboard, haha - fig tart and grilled peppers .
our first meal here - it was a lunch buffet
Eric got some rice, fresh veggies, an anticucho (but not the real one made of heart - haha), sweet potato and rice. We were about going back to our table when he discovered the pork! He couldn't let it go, so he got a slice with mashed apples and some fresh fruit.

When we were back at our table, our pisco sours were already waiting for us. Cheers! That pisco was a bit strong, or maybe it was my idea, haha. The food was very tasty, the drinks were good too and being next to Machu Picchu was priceless. We haven't even finished our plates 30 sec ago, when a waiter came, took them and replace our forks and knives, good service! Mmm, this was a buffet, so let's go for round 2 :P

This time I got a salmon mousse and grilled veggies, plus some extra "cardboard" fresh salad, haha.
First pisco. I love these glasses, so unique
Eric went straight to the pork. He told me it was really tender. He even said, this might be the best pork he ever tasted. Wow! "Where have you tasted the best pork in your life? Well, in Machu Picchu" How funny! Eric was toasting and suddenly his face changed. What happened? Well, he found a piece of plastic in his drink! What?!?! Where did it come from? Mmm, maybe the ice they used to fix it was in a plastic bag, mmm.

We were full, but there is always room for dessert, haha. What did Eric get for dessert? More pork! haha. I got some fresh fruit and a bit of Passion Fruit and Mango mousse. My dessert was very yummy!!! Eric found a 2nd piece of plastic, OMG! I told him to call a waiter, but he didn't want to do it, mmm. I was about finishing my drink when I found a piece of plastic too, but I didn't stay quiet.
Alejandro, giving us pisco sour without plastic :P
That's not me, hehe. When the waiter came to take our plates, I pointed the piece of plastic and he was really surprised. He didn't know what to say. Well, we didn't want to make a big deal about this matter, although we could have done it, but didn't want to cause problems to any worker here...

Then we saw the manager came in and the waiter showed him the glass with plastic and they both left. Mmm, Eric and I stood up and followed them. They were going to the bar / restaurant accross the lobby. By the time we got in, they have already gone inside the kitchen. Mmm. We went to the bar and started to talk to the bartender while he fixes another pisco sour - without plastic this time, please, haha. Then the manager came and apologized profusely. We could have taken advantage of this situation, but wanted to be nice people :) This gesture made a difference, up to this point we became the spoiled guests here, haha.
time to chill out

Don't know if it was allowed, but we took our drinks and went to the terrace. Alejandro, the barman, told us to give him a call if we wanted drinks while we were at the terrace, haha. The terrace was empty, just for us, how cool! We sat and started to enjoy the peace of this magical place.  Also the weather was perfect, sunny but not too warm, just perfect!

It was about 4:30pm and we went back to our room and took a nap. Yes, sooo lazy, haha. From time to time is nice to be lazy :P Well, we had gotten up before 4am, so we were getting tired, plus we wanted to be ready for the evening. The waiter told us they had a show for dinner and we wanted to enjoy it. So before going back to my room, I booked a table for that night at 7pm.

I tried to sleep, but I couldn't.
trying the Machu Picchu cocktail. Don't like it, but like the colors :)
At 5pm I was awake again, haha. How could I sleep here? No way! Furthermore, I might be in a magical place, but my cellphone started to ring. There were some work calls that I had to attend, haha. And Eric was making fun of this :P Around 5:20pm we went back to the bar, but it was still early to drink, so I just got a glass of juice. Eric started to check the wine lists and talked about the varieties of wine with the manager. I saw 2 computers, mmm, and tried to log on. I needed a password, oh well, then other manager came and told me that we had free access, without limit of time, how sweet!!!

It was almost 6pm when we checked the bar menu, haha. Ok, we were in Machu Picchu, so we'd have some traditional drinks here. Eric got the Machu Picchu drink and I got the signature drink of the hotel, the Blue Sanctuary.
ready for dinner :)
Eric didn't like his drink very much, haha. It was strong. Mine was very tasty :) But, well, all the drinks are included, so he asked for another one, haha. While we were waiting for dinner time, we met a nice couple and were chatting for a while with them. We really were the youngest people there, lol!

It was dinner time and our table was waiting for us. We could have chosen a regular table, but preferred the small one with the cozy chairs, haha. Well, this would be a long dinner, so many choices in the menu, yummy!!! Right after we sat the music started. There were 4 musicians. I have to say I was a bit disapointed, I was waiting for dancers too :( Well, the restaurant was getting crowded, although it didn't get packed at any time. A waiter came with the menus and introduced himself.
my Carpaccio - yummy!!! It was sealed beef, arugula, goat cheese with thyme black pepper :P
Then he left us thinking about what to order.

He brought some complimentary appetizers and gave us more time to think about our meal. At this time we saw the woman we met at the train. She went to Machu Picchu just after arriving with the bus and came back to the hotel around 6pm. She was tired and would relax the next day. We could have done the same, but we really wanted to climb the Wayna Picchu early in the morning. The waiter came back to take our orders and this time he gave us complimentary soup, which was really good :P

We weren't sure what to order for drink. A bottle of wine? Which one? Well, let's go for 2 glasses of champaigne and then we'd see. Ok, now he came with our order. As appetizer I got the Sealed Carpaccio Beef and Eric got the Beef Tenderloni Skewers marinated in Panca Chili.
my delicious Frozen Orange Souffle... with Grand Marnier caramelized pear and cape gooseberry sauce :P
No need to say that both dishes were delicious! I loved my Carpaccio and Eric's beef was really tender too. Now it was time to think about the entrees. Mmm.

I didn't want meat, so I went for a "Chop Suey" Organic Vegetables and Eric got the Duck Magret A L'orange. I didn't know how to explain to him about the cardomom they used for the duck. I asked the waiter and he came with some seeds, haha. How smart! A couple of minutes later the waiter came with our dishes. I didn't expect my dish coming with a crepe, haha. But it was so delicious. Eric's duck was good, but a bit overcooked, mmm. Ok, the meal was delicious and we both were so full... and the dessert was waiting for us. Well, better take a break and make some space for it :P

After a while we decided to go for dessert.
he enjoyed every single bite :)
Eric chose the Strawberries marinated with vanilla ice cream and I went for the Frozen Orange Souffle. Eric's strawberries looked lovely in the glass and my dish looked very nice too. I don't eat chocolate, so I removed the chocolate surrounding my souffle. Eric got an idea. We asked for a small bowl and the waiter brought one. Then Eric took his glass and empty it into the bowl and took the chocolate from my dish. The souffle was covered with Grand Menier and had caramelized pears with gooseberry sauce. Eric took a bit of this reduction and the souffle and added it to his new dessert.

My dessert was really tasty and so Eric's original one. But the combination of both of them was wonderful!!! Eric was enjoying every single bite of his dessert. I couldn't stop smiling every time I saw his eating, haha.
with Armando :)
The desserts were the best of the dinner. No doubts about it. So, when we saw the manager, we asked him to call the dessert chef. He was surprised but also pleased and went to the kitchen to go for him.

A couple of minutes later Armando (I think this was the name of the chef) came. He was a bit scared since he didn't know what to expect. Well I just gave him a big smile and said: "Congratulations!" Then he smiled back to us. Eric wanted to let him know how he mixed the 2 desserts and I became the translator. Hey! It was like if I were working, mmm. Armando listened carefully to Eric's idea and promised him to try his idea and would let  him know how it went. We gave him our emails. Then we were discussing about how he works with local ingredients. Eric also wanted to know what was in his dessert, that gave it a strange flavour.
with Alejandro - the bar tender
Well it was balsamic vinegar, just a couple of drops. Great idea!

Armando went back to the kitchen, feeling happy and proud of his work. So he should feel :) We were ready to get another drink, a digestive this time, so we moved to the bar in order to talk with our friend - bartender. All the waiters were happy about the fact we decided to call for the chef and congratulated him, haha. Also Armando sent us trufas and cookies from the kitchen :P Didn't I say that we were the spoiled guests?

Oh! I was forgetting to mention. All the crew knew us by our names, so it was very usual listening: "How are you doing Mr. Bertram?" or "Is everything ok Miss Salazar?" haha, that was super! We were celebrities, haha. We stayed at the bar for an hour more less, just chatting with Alejandro and making new friends among the other guests.

We'd probably meet them tomorrow in Machu Picchu.

Before going to sleep we asked for a wake up call and asked about recommendations about at what time to go in order to climb the Wayna Picchu. All the shampoos and conditioner has been replaced and they lighted scented candles, nice! I tried to watch a movie, but I was tired and fall asleep almost immediately. Next day would start really early and would be a looong one, so better save energies in advance :p
