Pachacutec welcomes the people arriving to Cusco
After a short, but with some turbulences, flight we arrived to Cusco. It was around 4:30pm, the sky was blue and it was a bit warm. Cusco I missed you so much... Well, we had just enough time to go to the train station and get our tickets before they would close. The greatest thing about not having checking any bag, was the fact that we could leave the airport quick. Just said good bye to Ana Maria and I'd give her a call once we'd be ready with the train tickets and she'd have already talked to the lady she was staying at (Nora).

We took a cab and not even after 10min, we were already at the station in Wanchaq . Just gave them our reservation number and that was it! By the way, the best way to buy the train tickets is online.
What do we want for breakfast?
We couldn't end the transaction online, but our reservation was made through phone, so we got a nice discount :) Our train will departure next morning at 6am, so we should be there at 5:30am.

Once we were ready I gave a call to Ana Maria. She talked to Nora and we had a place to stay, super!!! Ana Maria gave me Nora's address and it turned to be that Nora's place is about 7 blocks away to my aunt's house, how great! I was thinking about visiting my aunt after we came back from Machu Picchu, on Saturday or Sunday, because she might be busy with my cousin's Confirmation next morning, but I might do it before. Anyway, we took a cab and arrived to Nora's. She was starting a hostel business so she had some beds.
Surprising my aunt - a big hug!!!
The 4 of us went to the kitchen and had some coca tea. Nora couldn't believe we just met at the airport :)

After a nice cup of coca tea, we went to check the rooms. It was perfect, just what we needed. Nora would fix breakfast for us next morning and wanted us to let her know what we wanted to have, how sweat! She gave us a key and the 3 of us instead of staying and rest, decided to go out! Hey! We were in Cusco! Before going anywhere I wanted to stop by my aunt's and surprise her :)

After walking for a while. It wasn't as close as I thought, haha. We arrived to my aunt's just on time, since they were about leaving. I really surprised them. Neither my aunt or my cousin couldn't believe it, haha. There wasn't much time, so this meeting was brief, but we'd be back after Machu Picchu in a couple of days.
San Blas Square and the city lights
By the way, this aunt is my favorite aunt! I love her!!!

Following my aunt's advice we went to San Blas. I love this charming square. It's high, so you get a really nice view of the city which looked beautiful with all the yellow lights. We started to take some pics but didn't want to run much since you could feel the air was thin... We were walking around and Eric found a small and cozy place where they serve crepes. Having something light for dinner sounded good to me. The place was awesome. I really love this charming spot. (I'm writting a review about this) Although it was getting cooler outside, it was really warm inside. After looking at the menu we got vegetable soup for Eric & Ana Maria, salad for me, nutella crepe for Eric and to drink just water and juice.
having dinner at a charming place :)
Oh! they brought us complimentary bread with was still warm and was home made, yummy!

After a delicious dinner we started to go to the main square. Would we take a cab? No way! We'd explore the city, plus we didn't have to climb anymore. Now we just had to go down and enjoy the Inca Walls we found in our way :) Did we have anything we needed to do? Well, Ana Maria wanted to look for a tour operator she contacted a while ago and I wanted to visit the tour operator I'm always contacting in Cusco, hehe.

Yeee, we arrived to the Main Square and it was just gorgeous. I love it!!! We started to walk around and take some pictures. The night was a bit cool, but not to much. While we were walking I though I recognize a guy. The one Eric and I met at Cafe Cafe the last night.
with the friends we met in Lima!!!
I commented that to Eric and he run after him and said hi! It was hilarious! He was with friends and he recognized us too. He had already seen me, but since I was with Ana Maria, he wasn't sure I was the same person, haha. After chatting for a while we said good bye and hopefully we'd meet in Machu Picchu.

We couldn't find Ana Maria's tour operator office, so we went straight to the one I know. In our way we crossed in front of the store an uncle and he recognized me. He was so surprised, haha, couldn't believe I was there ;) We walked other 10m and there was this tour operator. It was good meeting him in person after almost 4 years, haha. He remembered he was owing me a drink. Maybe he'd pay for that when we'd be back from Machu Picchu. Ana Maria asked him about visiting a small town and how to do it.
knocking on heaven's door :P
Hopefully he'd be able to help her.

It was around 9:30pm and we were just walking around, without plans just feeling relaxed, yay! And of course taking pics!!! Then Eric told us he wanted to get a cider. He saw then at the crepe's place, but wanted to wait for later. So, we went to an Irish Pub near the Cathedral. What a fun location, haha! We found a cozy table in the corner and sat. It was still early and the place wasn't packed when we arrived. Not even 5 min later and Eric was talking to a group of people sitting near by. Ana Maria and I were chatting and wanted to get some pics. A guy in the table next to us noticed it and took a pic from both of us. And that was the beginning how our tables became one ;)

There were 5 people: a couple from Sweden and 3 guys from New Orleans.
the happy gang: Eric, Ana Maria, Mamed, Yadi, Dino, Swedish couple, Diego (he's the Peruvian)
None of them were American but live and work there, in fact one of them was Peruvian (Diego), lol. I was talking to the Greek one, Dino, who has been living in the USA for a while but loves New Orleans better. And I love that city too. It was so great talking to him about this city. Not just about the touristy places, but also about the non popular places. It was the perfect contact. Specially because I go quite often to New Orleans. Furthermore, he works in the same industry as I do, haha. That surprises him, since not many women work in this industry, lol. It's always great having local friends wherever you go :)

All of us were having a fun time and chilling out. I wasn't drinking that night. I wanted to take things easy since it was my first night in the altitude and they were making fun of me since I ordered water :P At that time Eric pointed the ceiling and I just noticed there was a train which was running in circles almost the whole night.
what will happen tomorrow???
As any Irish Pub, Paddy's had a great atmosphere. We were having fun, but we had to leave early. Ana Maria was falling asleep & Eric and I had to catch a train really early next morning.

So, we just said goodbye to our new friends. Hopefully I'd be able to meet them in New Orleans. We took a cab, drove back home and fall asleep immediately. I was happy I left all the things ready before leaving the house in the afternoon. Now it was time to sleep, zzz
