When I told my norwegian friend I was going to Beitostolen for a week, his reaction was "Do you know how lucky you are - that is where the Norwegian ski team practises!" and he was right. It was an amazing privelege to spend a week in a norwegian hytte (mountain cabin) in the company of good friends.

Beitostolen -the authentic hytte experience

Imagine sleeping in a authentic Norwegian log cabin, waking up to the sight of snowflakes falling onto the mounds of snow, sliding in to your snow suit, strapping on your skis and taking two steps outside to begin your ski run!! This is paradise in winter. Then sit back, cup of soup in hand, and gaze out over the peaceful stillness a valley of white and green, a frozen lake, and on the opposing mountainside, skiers shushing down the slopes.

In the six days at Beitostølen my daughter got to ski, make snowmen and a huge walk in snow castle, sled, and use the akebret ( not sure if that is the correct spelling) go on a reindeer ride and generally have a lot of fun. The weather was glorious most of the time, one day was so warm and sunny they said I got a tan. I am not so sure about that! What wonderful opportunities you have to do all sorts of winter sports in Norway. Things I have never imagined.

The town of Beito has all the supplies you need and ski lifts etc. the main cafe is busy at lunchtime, but the meals are good quality. Internet access, mail is available there too. There is even an old style grocer/variety store with good ol fashioned customer service.
