TO EUROPE FROM CALIFORNIA (9-Hour Time Change to East)

3 Days before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke, chocolate, diet aids, etc.) except 3 to 4:30 pm.

2 Days before Flight  Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine or snacks.

1 Day before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine, go to bed early.

Day of Flight  Eat high protein breakfast and lunch (400 calories max).  Drink lots of water.  Set clock ahead 9 hours and sleep (or rest quietly) until morning.

A ½ hour before breakfast (9 am at latest), stretch body and mind (talk to neighbors, read, etc.).  Splash water on face and tidy up.  Drink 2-3 cups of strong, black coffee or tea.

Eat a hearty, high protein breakfast and lunch.  Stay active outside.  Eat a big, high carbohydrate dinner.  No snacks after dinner.


FROM EUROPE TO CALIFORNIA (9-Hour Time Change to West)

3 Days before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke, chocolate, diet aids, etc.) except 3 to 4:30 pm.

2 Days before Flight  Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine or snacks.

1 Day before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine, light snacks after dinner okay, go to bed late.

Day of Flight  Sleep in as much as possible and drink 2-3 cups of strong, black coffee or tea.  Eat a late, high protein breakfast (250 calories max).  Drink lots of water.  Set clock behind 9 hours and sleep (or rest quietly) until morning.

A ½ hour before breakfast (9 am at latest), stretch body and mind (talk to neighbors, read, etc.).  Splash water on face and tidy up.  Eat a hearty, high protein breakfast and lunch.  Stay active outside.  Eat a big, high carbohydrate dinner.  Light snacks after dinner are okay.  Go to bed by 10 pm.



TO EAST COAST FROM CALIFORNIA (3-Hour Time Change to East)

3 and 2 Days before Flight  No caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke, chocolate, diet aids, etc.) except 3 to 4:30 pm.

1 Day before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine.

Day of Flight  Get out of bed earlier than usual.

Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine or snacks.  Drink lots of water on flight.  Shortly after 6 pm at your "West Coast time", no matter where you are, drink 2-3 cups of strong, black coffee or tea.

Set clock ahead 3 hours, go to bed at your normal time--on destination time, even if you are not tired--and sleep (or rest quietly) until morning.

Day after Flight  Do not oversleep.

Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine

Keep active outdoors in sunshine.  Do not nap.  Go to bed by 10:30 pm.


FROM EAST COAST TO CALIFORNIA (3-Hour Time Change to West)

3 and 2 Days before Flight  No caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke, chocolate, diet aids, etc.) except 3 to 4:30 pm.

1 Day before Flight  Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine (from 7 to 11 in morning is okay).

Day of Flight  Before 11:30 a.m. at your "East Coast time", no matter where you are, drink 2-3 cups of strong, black coffee or tea.  Set clock behind 3 hours, and eat breakfast at your normal time--on destination time.

Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine.

Drink lots of water on flight.  Go to bed early.



TO CHINA FROM CALIFORNIA (7- or 8-Hour Time Change to West)

3 Days before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke, chocolate, diet aids, etc.) except 3 to 4:30 pm.

2 Days before Flight  Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine or snacks.

1 Day before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine, light snacks after dinner okay.

Day of Flight  Sleep in as much as possible.  Immediately upon rising, and before 11:30 am, drink 2-3 cups of black coffee or strong, plain tea.  Eat a late, high protein breakfast (250 calories max).  Drink lots of water.  Set clock behind 7-8 hours and rest until breakfast, destination time.

A ½ hour before breakfast, destination time, stretch body and mind (talk to neighbors, read, etc.).  Splash water on face and tidy up.  Eat a hearty, high protein breakfast and lunch.  Stay active outside.  Do not nap.  No caffeine.  Eat a big, high carbohydrate dinner.  Light snacks after dinner are okay.


FROM CHINA TO CALIFORNIA (7- or 8-Hour Time Change to East)

3 Days before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine except 3 to 4:30 pm.

2 Days before Flight  Fast day (800 calories max) - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine or snacks.

1 Day before Flight  Feast day - high protein breakfast and lunch, high carbohydrate dinner, no caffeine.

Day of Flight  Get up early.  Eat high protein breakfast and lunch, and high carbohydrate dinner (800 calories max).  Drink lots of water.  At 6 pm, no matter where you are, drink 1-2 cups of black coffee or strong, plain tea.  Set clock ahead 7-8 hours and sleep (or rest quietly) until morning, destination time, even if you don't feel tired.

Good timing with this since I leave Thursday!! But WTH, NO CAFFEINE!?!?!? OMG...go to bed early? Stay active outside before leaving?!?! I will be glued to my computer stressing about all the stuff I didn't finish at work!!! HAHAHA. Never fails - always a basket case before leaving on a trip!
