Manchester, Prague, Bratislava, Frankfurt and Luxembourg City all within a few days by Plane, Bus and Train! This is going to be hectic!

Praha Night 1

We arrived in Prague safe and sound at around 21:00. There was a moments panic when we thought that our luggage had might have got lost but it was merely taking it's time getting off the plane - coming out last! Once we had all our belongings we headed out the airport doors to find a taxi. we didn't need to though because it found us! A tall man speaking English and (I assume) Czech helped us to a Taxi (free of charge) and once we had shown the driver our hotel details he seemed to know where it was and we were on our way.

The driver of our taxi spoke excellent English. I must admit, with no offence intended to any taxi drivers, I was somewhat amazed at just how good his English was. It turns out that being a taxi driver was his second job! His first job was as a Voice Over Actor (you know the ones - its a foreign film and it's dubbed with someone else's voice over the top!) He had obviously taken a liking to us so he asked if it was our first time in Prague and whether we'd like to go a slightly longer way so he could point out where we should head the following day. For no extra charge, how could we refuse?

He drove us around the city showing us different sites that we looked forward to seeing again in daylight before finally dropping us off at our hotel. 15CZK seemed reasonable and so we added a bit extra as a tip for his brilliant service.

We rang the bell for the reception and went in once the door was open. The young girl behind the counter didn't speak brilliant English but was very friendly and certainly spoke more English than we did Czech! We checked in and went back outside to go back in another door one door down. Up in the lift to the top floor and finally into our room and bed. We were very tired and we had an early start the next day...

Cheap and Cheerful Prague Hotel
We booked this hotel because it was nice and cheap but don't let the price or the star rating put you off - some websites say 2*. It's down a back street off the main road but its perfectly safe, dead quiet and really quite comfortable.

The room itself is basic - a bed, a couple of chairs and a desk, a few lamps and an en-suite bathroom - but its absolutely perfect for just staying the night.

The breakfast room is done out quite nice, with skins and pictures on the walls giving it a tradional feel. The food isn't bad either at only an extra 10CZK p/p.

The reception is 24 hours (we only ever saw one member of staff though - she appeared to work all night, sometimes answering the door in her pyjamas if it was early in the morning or late at night!) No matter what time of day though, she was always friendly and spoke decent English.

The walk into the old town is around 10 minutes alongside the river.

If you're trip is on a budget and you are only planning on spending a few days/nights in Prague then I'd really recommend staying here. We really enjoyed it. Although the hotel is quite simple compared to some, it's rather romantic in it's own way!
