The match was about to begin
Our last day in Italy. We more or less had seen the whole of Milan and were wondering what to do. Milan has a big football stadium (Stadio San Siro) which we hadn't seen yet, so undertook an epic journey to reach that stadium.

What we did not know, was that the 2 large clubs of Milan, AC Milan and Inter Milan, were having a match that day.

Can you imagine our surprise?

It took us considerable difficulty in reaching San Siro, for every single Milanese was trying to do the same! First we took the metro to a spot that was totally wrong. Then we went back to another subway station, looking for the right place to get on the bus. We found the busstation at last but it took at least half an hour before the tram arrived.

An when it did, it was totally packed with people. So much so, that the tram refused any more passengers and drove right past us. Later, an empty tram arrived and we continued our journey. But halfway to the stadium, the police stopped our tram and all the passengers had to continue the journey by bus.

To make a long story short, we arrived at San Siro. By then, we off course had discovered that there was a match. Tens of thousands of Milano's gathered outside and inside the stadium and all tickets were sold. It was a bitter pill to swallow to walk around the stadium while a match was about to start and to hear the sound of thousands of people cheering and singing.

We returned to our hotel. It was our last day and we looked at the Duomo one last time. It was quiet now, just like the first day. It was a trip full of surprises!
