Rivermouth where my surf lesson was
My first stop in the morning was back in Margaret River for some breakfast. I went back to the same bakery as the night before that had just brought out some chocolate hot cross buns. I figured I'd buy one and eat it as a reward after my surf lesson. It didn't quite last that long and I ate it in the parking lot waiting for the instructor to arrive.

The conditions weren't as great as I was hoping for as it was raining on the drive to the beach. The rain eventually stopped but the waves were not going to be cooperating. There was just me and one other girl taking that lesson and the instructor told us we didn't have to go if we didn't want to since the conditions were not very good. There were waves coming from teh ocean, beach and from the left hand side.
at the end of my surf lesson. Wetsuits are definitely not flattering!
I figured that I might as well try since I was there. It was probably a bad mistake and I knew it about 10 minutes into the lesson. We were spending most of our time battling the waves to get out far enough to try to ride them back in. Once a good wave would come, another one would come along the side and make it pretty tough to do anything. In the time I was out there, I tried to get up 4 times and succeeded on the 4th try. My instructor was pretty amazed I was able to get up haha. Shortly after I felt pain shoot up through my back and knew it was time to leave.

My 5 seconds of joy resulted in serious back pain for the rest of the trip. At least I did stand up though and it was fun for about 10 minutes :)

This day I had set aside as "cave and lighthouse day". The plan was to drive down Cave Road and see Lake Cave, Jewel Cave and end up in Augusta to see the light house.

The caves were pretty cool but about halfway through cave #2 I was getting a bit caved out. So my cave viewing limit is now officially set at 1.5 caves per day.

Driving through the area is very nice with not a lot of traffic, 90 - 110 km/hr speed limits and lots and lots of trees to see (something I don't see lots of in Perth, at least not in forest form).

I arrived in Augusta and the lighthouse at 4:45. The last entry to the lighthouse was at 4:30. Unfortunately the closest I got to the point "where the south ocean and Indian Ocean meet" was a fence that enclosed the area.

Although my lack of lighthouse viewing was a bit disappointing, I did eat at the last stop between that area and Antartica.
Lake Cave
I ordered a "Lots Burger" which in Australia means, bacon, cheese, egg, beetroot, lettuce and onion. Pretty much anything you could think might even come close to being good on a burger. So I ate dinner while reading the paper and eating a ginormous burger in the tiny town of Augusta. I think it's pretty much impossible to be stressed out when you're in the area!

The drive back was a little less exciting but I managed to make it back without any kangaroos jumping in front of me. To this point, the only kangaroos I'd seen were dead and on the side of the road.

By the time I arrived back at my hostel, I was so relieved to be laying down and resting my back, that I wasn't all that disappointed not to be partying it up with all the other hostel stayers. So a quiet night, laying in bed reading my book it was.
