The conditions weren't as great as I was hoping for as it was raining on the drive to the beach. The rain eventually stopped but the waves were not going to be cooperating. There was just me and one other girl taking that lesson and the instructor told us we didn't have to go if we didn't want to since the conditions were not very good. There were waves coming from teh ocean, beach and from the left hand side.
My 5 seconds of joy resulted in serious back pain for the rest of the trip. At least I did stand up though and it was fun for about 10 minutes :)
This day I had set aside as "cave and lighthouse day". The plan was to drive down Cave Road and see Lake Cave, Jewel Cave and end up in Augusta to see the light house.
Driving through the area is very nice with not a lot of traffic, 90 - 110 km/hr speed limits and lots and lots of trees to see (something I don't see lots of in Perth, at least not in forest form).
I arrived in Augusta and the lighthouse at 4:45. The last entry to the lighthouse was at 4:30. Unfortunately the closest I got to the point "where the south ocean and Indian Ocean meet" was a fence that enclosed the area.
Although my lack of lighthouse viewing was a bit disappointing, I did eat at the last stop between that area and Antartica.
The drive back was a little less exciting but I managed to make it back without any kangaroos jumping in front of me. To this point, the only kangaroos I'd seen were dead and on the side of the road.
By the time I arrived back at my hostel, I was so relieved to be laying down and resting my back, that I wasn't all that disappointed not to be partying it up with all the other hostel stayers. So a quiet night, laying in bed reading my book it was.
