The weather wasn't that good, it was cloudy and a bit cold, certainly not what we expected. We took a bus to the closest station called Agnanina so we could take a metro to Temini station which is the main station in Rome. The bus cost 1 euro, as well as the metro. We were stunned how cheap it was, but I guess after living in London, we naturally would be. We had to walk from the Termini station to our hotel which took about 30 mins max (Rome isn't that big, if you like walking, you can see all the sights by foot but wear comfy shoes, the roads are very bumpy). I really liked the location with loads of lovely little cheese shops and proper Italian restaurants and boutiques. The back roads in Rome are very narrow and jammed with cars parked anywhere that the drivers desire.
I was anxious about our hotel as the latest review that we read was horrible but we got there and were greeted by a nice italian lady who smelled of coffee :) and who showed us to our room, which wasn't exactly 5 star hotel room but was very clean and spacious. I felt very relieved as I didn't exactly want to begin our city break with trying to look for a place to sleep. So we dropped our bags off and decided to go explore Rome.
I recommend staying at this hotel if you want something cheap and close to everything. It was located 15 mins by foot from the Termini station and another 15 mins from the main shopping street called Via del Corso. The room was 20 euros per night and spacious and nice and clean with big window letting in plenty of light. The only thing that might not be to everyones taste was the bathroom which was, I believe, brought in as it looked like one of those toilets that you see next to building sights. However, it was clean, the shower worked really well and it was built in so you wouldn't know that it wasn't part of the room until you've opened the door on it and took a step up to get inside. Trust me, it might sound bad but it wasn't at all, it was a great bargain.
