Malang --> Podjihardjo (southern coast)
July 11, 2001
Michael's work led him to a small village at the southern coast on this day. Its name: Podjihardjo. (...have not find this one on any map so far). Katrin and I joined him, Doris and Aaron for this ride. The narrow and winding road went through suprisingly unexploited areas. Halfway we stopped at a little church to pick the local pastor up. He insisted on showing us his church before we went on. Later Michael told me that he was doing because he was looking for potential donators. When we finally arrived at Podjihardjo we got the impression that no tourist had ever come here before. It was great. There was a beach, some tiny fishermen huts and an astonishing big church. I learned that the population of the village were mainly Christians. There was one funny episode: When I took a closer look at the church I suddenly heard av oice greeting me - in perfect German! What? Turned out one of the locals not only had been been to my home country before but actually had lived in a city only 20 kilometers away from my hometown for two years! This planet is sooo small! :-D
