Although Islam is not the state religion Indonesia is the state with the biggest muslim population worldwide. About 88 percent of all Indonesians are moslems. The friday prayer (Jumu'ah) is obligatory for all Muslim males. It is usually performed at a mosque - in this this case the Masjid Jami Malang. The mosque was so crowded that many of the believers knelt down on the street in front of the building.
