In the summer of 1996 my cousin and I travelled through the Southwest. 4,000 miles on the road, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco plus a dozen National Parks including Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly NM, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, Dead Horse Point SP, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Glorious days.

Yosemite Valley

This should have been the day of our Half Dome hike. But on the previous day we had learned that the weather forecast was really bad. So we stayed in our tent and slept in.

When we got up it was raining. And the weather remained foul for most of the day. So we decided to hang out and save our strength for the following day. Hoping for better hiking conditions. We talked about our experiences during this trip so far, snoozed, checked our lamps and boots and snoozed again. Later I went to the village and had a close look at the forecast. Great, odds were in our favour: no rain, cloudless sky, about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. We crouched into our sleeping bags early this evening to be well rested.
