Thousand Oaks

In the summer of 1996 my cousin and I travelled through the Southwest. 4,000 miles on the road, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco plus a dozen National Parks including Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly NM, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, Dead Horse Point SP, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Glorious days.

Thousand Oaks

We had no specific plans for the rest of the day. So we decided to go on driving in the direction of Los Angeles and search for a campsite. Sounds uncomplicated. Turned out to be quite difficult, though. We had found a free space at every single national park campsite during our trip. But we did not find a place to stay along the coast. Even the signs at the motels all read "no vacancy". For the first time we were facing accommodation trouble.
A little bit frustrated we left the coast at Oxnard and drove in the direction of Thousands Oaks. It was getting already dark when we were driving along a lonesome road through the coastel ranges. It seemed to take hours to getting through. Around 10 pm we finally reached Thousand Oaks and found a vacant room at a local motel. Good night!
