In the summer of 1996 my cousin and I travelled through the Southwest. 4,000 miles on the road, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco plus a dozen National Parks including Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly NM, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, Dead Horse Point SP, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Glorious days.

San Francisco

Since SF is a fascinating place we could have easily stayed a day longer. But for some reason both of us wanted to leave. Weeks later when we were back home in Germany and reflected on this topic we agreed that - after having visited all the national parks - SF simply was too crowded for us.

Well, at least we did not flee the city but made a short stop at Alamo Square to have a lookat  the famous "Painted ladies", some beautiful Victorians. Since the sunlight came slightly from the back of the houses it was tricky to get a good picture. Unfortunately we did not check the city map before we went there. Otherwise we would have known.
My hot tip: Come here in the afternoon!
