In the summer of 1996 my cousin and I travelled through the Southwest. 4,000 miles on the road, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco plus a dozen National Parks including Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly NM, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, Dead Horse Point SP, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Glorious days.

Highway 375, NV ("I feel lonely...")
What a day. I remember driving along endless roads leading to the horizon. Scant vegetation on both sides. Where were we going? Crossing northern Nevada from east to west on our way to California. Long way to go. Around noon we got on highway 375. Since it is running parallel to famous Area 51 it is being called 'Extraterrestrial highway'. A small sign read: next service 112 miles. Let's go. 112 miles later we reached the 'Alien capital of the world': Rachel, NV.
The 'city' consists of roughly three dozen trailers, a gas station and a bar called Little A'Le'Inn. No aliens were in sight, though. Well, perhaps they were having a siesta. We got our car fueled and found out that the gas station served as a kind of pilgrimage site for alien freaks. All kind of alien and Area 51 collectibles were available. A lot of trash for dumb tourists! I bought a high prized sticker...
Forgot one thing. After having left Rachel I spotted a familiar sign again: 'Next service 115 miles' ...
laserjones says:
Heck, we didn't even see a UFO there ... Nothing!
