Monterey --> Pismo Beach
September 20, 1996
Highway 1 is supposed to be one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the world. And it is true. So many breathtaking views along the coast. We stopped at several places (like Hurricane Point, Bixby Creek Bridge, Lopez Point)), walked to the beach and enjoyed the sound of the waves.
Although my cousin was not really interested we went to Hearst Castle near San Simeon. At the visitor center we learned that all tour tickets for this day (and the following days) had been sold out (reservations are recommended!). Well, the unbelievable crowds of people were not very attractive anyway. Even so our visit was not unsuccessful since my cousin found an unused voucher book. This one proved to be very useful later when we were looking for motels in Los Angeles.
We left and headed for Pismo Beach where we visited the "Guadelupe-Nipomo Dunes Preserve". The contrast could not have been bigger. Apart from us there were practically no people in this fascinating dune landscape. Wonderful experience!
