Grand Canyon, AZ
August 30, 1996
It took us the whole day to reach our next destination: the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I remember endless roads, Route 66 and small cities like Kingman. We arrived at the canyon village shortly before sunset. The campground we chose was in fact full. But the officer allowed us to leave our car and tent on a small free space between the RV's. (thank you, Ranger!) We parked our car and directly ran to the rim.
What should I say? The first impression was breathtaking. The contrast between the canyon and the place we had left only hours before could hardly have been bigger. I remember sitting there at the rim and enjoying the silence. Awesome! To me silence was the appropriate reaction. I was speechless anyway. Fortunately there was just a dozen other tourists with us there so I could totally enjoy the panorama.
