Dead Horse Point SP
September 5, 1996
When I had planned this trip to the Southwest months ago I had detected a great picture in one coffee-table book that struck me. It was a wonderful panorama shot of the Dead Horse Point State Park - a place I had never heard of before. I came to a decision immediately: we had to go there!
This was the day. We reached Moab and turned left for the climb to the State Park. Er...I recall a painful incident now. I almost brought us into serious trouble when I saw a rock lying on the road and decided to run over it. A big bump told me that I had obviously miscalculated the ground clearance of our car. My cousin had foreseen the incident but simply thought I would drive around the rock. He went really wild! Fortunately the car was still running and, well, as we knew: "damage to the car..." :-D
There is only a small campsite at the Dead Horse Point SP but we were lucky enough to get the last available spot. Then we drove to the viewpoint. What can I say? Sight and setting were marvelous! Lighting was perfect. Just a dozen other tourists on the spot. Simply wonderful!
