Capitol Reef NP

Capitol Reef National Park Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

In the summer of 1996 my cousin and I travelled through the Southwest. 4,000 miles on the road, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco plus a dozen National Parks including Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly NM, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, Dead Horse Point SP, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Glorious days.

Capitol Reef NP

Capitol Reef NP. We only had the time for a short stopover. One more good reason to come back one day.
Since we had only four weeks time for our trip to the Southwest we had to exclude some parks from our route when we had been planning our trip. The biggest drawback was that we had to cut out Zion NP. This decision had been a really difficult one. In contrast Capitol Reef NP had always been number one on our cross-off list. The campground (Fruita) in this park just served as a stopover for us on this day. Well, a nice stopover with a beautiful view! :-)
We decided to do at least a short hike at Capitol Reef. After we had set up our tent we drove to the trailhead of Capital Gorge. Unfortunately the pathhad been closed earlier on that day due to the danger of floodings (there was no visible sign of rain but a heavy thunderstorm had occured some milkes away). Well, we walked arround a little bit - that was it. I will be back for more someday - for sure!

Too bad you didn't get to spend more time in those two wonderful parks!
