Today we started early as we wanted to get a good view of the fireworks at midnight, so we headed into Darling Habour at midday. There were no signs of any people or food & drink facilities so we headed to tourist information for advice. It turns out there is no view of the fireworks from Darling Habour,a nd it was too late to get into Circular Quay
, so we took the guys advice and took a ferry across to Balmain
for a great view. So the mission began: we had to find a shop to get food, find a bottle shop to get drink, find a ferry to get to Balmain - all in the blazing heat. It was worth it when we got there though - there was a small grassy park with an excellent view of the bridge and fireworks. A 10 hour wait later the fireworks kicked off. They were awesome, but everyone in he area appeared to be British. I didn't fly half way round the world to listen to drunk Brits sing Robbie Williams songs thanks! Anyways, after the display everyone headed up a big hill into Balmain to catch the free buses back into the city, It was chaos with people pushing to get on any bus. Eventually we squeezed into one, but after 40 minutes of standing on a hot packed space and not moving anywhere through the traffic we decided to walk it instead - big mistake! We were 4 miles from the city and didn't get home until 3:30am! Why to New Years eves always end up like this?!
