What a lovely South African couple!

I was very surprised with the people in South Africa

Before getting there I´ve  read that South Africa was a dangerous country, that there was a heavy atmosphere there ! But fortunately that was not all not true!  In Cape Town and even in Johanesburg, it´s possible to walk alone along the streets during the day. But avoid doing this during the night

People were very friendly and helpful. I met many African descendents, Hindis and  Chinese living there . But there´s something that has to be told and warned.

It´s very common  that children approaches when you´re at  restaurants, bars or at the beach. They usually come to you with a notebook asking for donation for children from an orphanage. They ask you to sign the notebook and then ask for the money. “It´s for buying books, food, clothes…” they say. It happened with me at CAMPS BAY, while I was laying on the beach and then again at a restaurant. The thing is that we do not know if this money is really going to an orphanage and if it really helps children. Another thing is that these children who are asking for this money were supposed to be at school and no “working”! It´ our choice to encourage or discourage the begging culture among children.

In Cape Town I found a little bit difficult to travel by bus in town, but you can get anywhere in and around town using a shared taxi, http://www.rikkis.co.za, for 20 • 35 Rands.

Visiting
http://www.rikkis.co.za/ you may find free phones spread around the city from where you may call Riki´s and ask for their service.

If you do not have a lot of time, but have some money you can fly some local airline companies like
http://www.flymango.com/, http://www.onetime.com/ and http://www.kulula.com/ .

If you do not have a lot of time and are travelling on a shoestring you can take local buses which I found safe and ok:
http://www.greyhound.co.za, http://www.translux.co.za...

If you have time and want to visit lots of places it is worth to take the Baz Bus
http://www.bazbus.com/ that´s a very convenient hop on and hope off door to door backpacker bus service
