REALLY WILD!!

I wanted to go somewhere really  wild and somewhere I would be able to learn and see something  about the native people. I was on the plane going to Johanesburg when I read and saw some pictures about the WILD COAST . I got very interested in going there and started to ask people in Cape Town about this spot.

“The WILD COAST is awesome” that´s what I heard from everybody I asked about this beautiful place. But it was just after talking to Justin, an American guy, that I decided where to go to the WILD COAST. He told me BULUNGULA is one of the best experiences he has ever had.

So I headed to BULUNGULA and  COFFE BAY (this also highly  recommended !!!)

BULUNGULA   http://www.

bulungula.com

After almost a day traveling from Cape Town I got there under a heavy rain (from Cape Town you´ve got to go to UMTATA and from there you get a shuttle to Bulungula).

Bulungula  is a Lodge located in a village where there´s no road, no electricity, no toilet, running water…a village full of nice and interesting people, a village where women are so strong ( the majority of them take care of their children,  do the house work and work in the garden while their husbands are far away in working in mines (mainly). For me these women seemed to be heroes and they were always smiling, always !!

Getting to Bulungula we were welcomed by DAVE who showed us how the lodge worked. The rocket showers (they´re heated by fire, you put paraffin in some toilet paper , put the paper inside a pipe and then set fire. Within 6 minutes you have hot water to have a nice shower), the toilets, the wall of activities, the kitchen and  the bar.

STRONG, NICE AND HAPPY WOMEN

Oh! The Bar is really, really interesting. It´s such a trustworthy system !! You help yourself, get everything you want and then mark it down on a sheet of paper.

KITCHEN: In BULUNGULA, you have the chance of tasting the traditional KHOSA food and there is always an option for those who are vegetarian.

THE WALL OF ACTIVITIES: there you may find activities such as visiting the herbalist, village tour, canoeing, massage…( everything done with the community)

But, what surprised me the most is the fact that the lodge is also run by the community,   there is no crime and no beggars.

THEY ARE SO SMART AND LOVE TO MAKE FRIENDS; KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOUR BABY IS. THE BEST OF IT IS THAT I DID NOT SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE, KHOSA, AND THEY KNEW ONLY A FEW, BUT ENOUGH, WORDS IN ENGLISH TO COMMUNICATE.
The locals are always around: children and adults and you can leave your belongings everywhere that nobody will touch it

COFFE BAY:

It´s such a party place. I stayed at the “COFFE SHACK”:  nice place, nice staff… and very convenient, they accept credit card there. So if  you run out of cash, don’t worry you can stay longer: sleep, eat, drink, go hiking, learn how to surf ... and have a lot of fun.

The COFFEE BAY is really wild, beautiful, interesting, different…  I enjoyed every minuet spent there, the days (the hikes to MAAPUZI CLIFFS AND CAVES and THE COASTAL HIKE TO THE HOLE IN THE WALL - excellent for whale watch • both, followed by the tasty grilled sandwiches) and nights (the DRUM sessions with the tribal rhythms at BOMVU BACKPACKERS !!!Great and better when a player called SILAS was on!!! I was so surprised with the way he played, so intense, strong.

THE CLIFS
I HAVE  NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!!!!!

But It was time to leave, I needed to go to TANZANIA, Serengueti, Kilimamnjaro, The Massai Tribe, Zanzibar… lots of tings to see, a lot to learn! So, on a minivan, I left the COFFE BAY on a Sunday afternoon. I was the only tourist there and, except for the driver and his girlfriend, nobody spoke ENGLISH. On our way, we stopped a lot and people were always getting on, children, adults a lot of bags and a “CHOIRE” of nuns singing inside the minivan!!! Oh!  What a musical experience
