Weekend Trip to Singapore

having my milk tea (teh tarik) on our stop over.

Still with so many issues to address, I left the office before 9pm to prepare for this abrupt trip. I met Mike near his place and we took cab going to Masjid Jamek to meet Ria, which was already waiting at One Cafe Restaurant. Since we still have enough time before midnight, we decided to take our dinner there. Actually, I was still thinking of going back to the office to check my emails since it’s just few steps away from there. But my friends stopped me and tied me up on my seat.

At exactly 12 midnight, 3 of us went straight to the bus station where we meet Earlene. I was already on vacation-mode, eager to ride the bus and have a nice sleep but only until a little over 1am when we got up to our bus (as usual late).  The bus was hideous! We were seated on the back row.

hideous local bus!
One of our seats cannot be reclined, one was broken, rough, and bumpy, while the air-con on the further right seat was wide-open (no cover at all). But being a gentleman as I am, we shifted seats every now and then hehe. In short, we all didn’t get enough rest.  :P

After few hours in this dreadful bus ride, we arrived on the 1st stop over. We all did our thing and bought “teh tarik” before heading back to our horrible bus. All this time, Earlene thought that we’re already in Singapore. She was so happy, even starting comparing Singapore to Malaysia blah blah blah.  But the truth is, we’re still in Malaysia! How could she tell that she’s already in Singapore if, in fact, she still paid Ringgit in the coffee booth bwahaha.

Finally!
We just made fool of her, we just make fun of ourselves to lighten up our moods. But really, I was cursing my friends for choosing this bus. With no enough rest, we finally arrived to Johor Bahru. We took our bags and went straight to the immigration. After crossing the border, we are FINALLY in Singapore!

This ain’t my first time here so I somehow know where to go. We took a bus that will bring us to the nearest MRT station. After transferring from one train to another, we finally reached our 1st destination, Earlene friends’ unit (sorry I forgot where it is, but it’s far away from civilization, it’s like a remote area from nowhere bwahahaha). Earlene and Ria will be staying here while Mike and I, as planned, will look for a cheap hostel in the city proper. After a quick shower and sumptuous breakfast prepared by the host (thanks Me-ann), Mike and I ran out and headed straight to Bugis Backpacker Hostel.

Singapore here we come!
Actually, we have many friends living in Singapore that we can crashed by for a night or two, but we decided to book in a hostel to feel being a tourist :P.  With so little time to roam around the place, Mike and I decided t go to downtown Singapore. We went to Queen Elizabeth Walk, Esplanade Theatre on the Bay, Merlion, etc.  After few hours of long walk, we met Earlene and Ria somewhere near Merlion.  We had our break in Starbucks for a while before we set ourselves on the go again. This time around, we all decided to go to Sentosa.  This place didn’t fancy me but if you’re with a great company, wherever hell it is, it’s definitely gonna be fun. To make the long story short, we spent the whole afternoon there fooling around.
I think it’s around 6 or 7pm when we decided to go home for a quick nap and shower before meeting some of Earlene’s friends for dinner. But before we separated ways, we bought our bus ticket back to KL for tomorrow’s trip.

Earlene friends brought us to this Indian place which again I forgot the name of the restaurant (sorry for that hehe) and had some chit-chat.  I like Indian food but not as much as I love Malay food. I wasn’t really feeling well that time so after the dinner, Mike and I went back to our place while the girls still went out to hit the bars.

The next day, with no plans on our heads where to go after our breakfast @ McDo (where else?), Mike and I went to this infamous mall for OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) LUCKY PLAZA! Truly, you can see a lot of Filipinos having some good time.

We we’re like back at home! Yeah, I feel like I was walking around in one of the malls in the Philippines where people are staring at me because of my not so obvious height! Grrh (*kinda pissed me off actually) But I got used to it so it didn’t bother me much. Mike bought shades to his father while I bought another perfume for myself. After roving all the floors doing some window shopping and smiling back to all “kababayans”  out there(they really thought I am a pro basketball player back home; d nila alam piko ako magaling... ay d pala pwede malaki paa ko eh so taya kaagad bwahaha).

Anyway, I heard from my friends that Jurong Bird Park is a nice place to see, so I convinced Mike to go there instead.  We were supposed to take a cab to bring us there but for some reason, there wasn’t any available cab passing by.

lost?
After few minutes waiting, I decided to approach a group of Filipinas in the corner and asked for the directions. My gracious goodness, it would have cost us $$$ A LOT if we took a cab since it’s on the other side of Singapore! Lucky for us, surely HE knows we don’t have enough money to pay the cab driver if that happens hehehe.

With the help of our “kababayans”, after riding the train alighted to the last station and from there riding a bus, we managed to arrive in Jurong Bird Park. Damn it took us more than an hour to go there, imagine that. The place was impressive, the animals were in good health, a lot of species to see, and the place isn’t crowded at all. There’s even a mini monorail inside the park. Mike and I spent the whole afternoon in this incredible place.

Nice place to wrap up our trip.

With little time left, we ran like a bullet and hopped hastily from one train to another to reach our hostel as fast as we could. We changed clothes, checked-out, and rode a cab to bring us to the meeting place. We arrived just in time, less than 5 minutes before the bus scheduled to leave. Earlene and Ria were worried because the bus attendant already informed them that they will be leaving in a short while and they can’t be late just for us. Anyhow, we made it through so we’re happy.

Our horrible bus experience going to Singapore is totally opposite to what we’ve experienced going back to KL. Because this time, we made see to it to experience relaxation on the road. We bought an expensive ticket in a 1st class bus ride to KL.

Indeed, we experienced a 1st class treatment. Free dinner, free blanket, monitor on each seat so u could watch movies or play video games, and most especially a very comfy seat that I managed to get a much needed rest. (*but the seat still looks small for me bwahaha :P).

We arrived at KL on time. We let Earlene took the 1st cab since she lives far from KL, while Ria, Mike and I shared on one cab since we all live close to each other. We dropped Ria first on her condo followed by Mike and lastly myself. I arrived to my unit just before midnight, called my parents that I’m back home, took a quick shower and head straight to my bed to rest in prep for the next day in the office.
