A drive to remember
November 25, 2008
Arriving in Rome FCO early in the morning, i rushed quickly to get my cappuccino at one of the cafes. Truly made my day as i started my journey heading south to Muro Leccese (656km from Rome). Hired a medium size fiat punto benz with a GPS (that did not help) that much. 150 km through the Autostrade (motorway) the weather predicted well, it was raining towards the afternoon. And suddenly unexpected thing happened. The front wiper stopped working. Called the "Prestige Car Rental" to send back-up and surprisingly it turned out to be not so prestigious. Instead, they asked me to fix it myself and send them the bill/ticket/receipt. Well, the language barrier over here is utterly dissappointing. English is not well spoken. It seem that I had to use sign languages or something to commmunicate. And so, I continued driving (without the front wiper) for about another 70 odd kms to the city of Napoli and spend the night there. The traffic was killing me. Yet, my mind just so tired that all I can think was a nice hot shower and a good sleep.
