The Trip Begins

After a 600 mile road trip yesterday we are well into our trip across the USA.  The stopover in Chicago gave us a chance to get some Romanian food, my passport and a Chinese Visa in addition a chance to visit a friend (thanks Kacy!).  A few change of plans are that we are no longer taking Ana's 97 Geo prizm out of concern that we wouldn't be able to sell it in California due to their strict emission standards.  Instead we have rented a car.  After requesting an economy car, the agency said they only had a compact car which seemed fine.  I went to checkout the car in the lot and came back to tell him the car wasn't there...there was just some car that looked like a mini-van...he said 'yep, that is it'...so Ana and I are traveling in style.

After getting on the road from Ann Arbor I did point out to Ana that we were about to drive over 3,000 miles and didn't have a single map in the car, but we rectified that with a bag full of maps in Chicago.  Despite, closure of I-94 across Michigan and more rain and wind than we would have preferred yesterday we have made good progress and are on schedule so hopefully it will stay that way.  Now we need to head off to Mt. Rushmore, the Bandlands and on to Wyoming!
