Thanksgiving NYC
My turkey asked for a pardon, but I refused, and gobbled him up. Pardons are for schmucks and Presidents. There's a fine line between giving thanks and giving up what you're thankful for, and giving up a thanksgiving turkey dinner in NYC ain't one of the things I'm about to give up on. Just like the Macy's parade.
Its a tradition. You gotta be in NYC for Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year, no matter what you're doin or plan to do. You fly in, your folks are waiting for you, there's a bit of back-slapping and huggin and kissing, and then you head out to meet up with old friends and check out what's new on the NYC scene. One of the new tourist attractions in NYC that I had been looking forward to - The NYC Waterfalls - was unfortunately no more, and neither was Astroland in Coney Island, which took away a lot of the fun from Brooklyn. I mean, you wander around the wacky stuff at Coney Idland, wolf down some chili dogs at Nathan's Famous, and generally just get back in tune with the good old New York. This time around, there's a sense that things have changed. Its just not the same anymore.
Anyway, I did get to Rockefeller Center and check out the Christmas Tree. Magnificent tree, as always. Seems this one's from somewhere in New Jersey. Afterwards, spent some time on Bleecker St and the Meatpcking District. Amazing how fast the Meatpacking District is changing. Looks like a glitzy magazine advertisement now. Ended up in the West Village for a burger and beer at Corner Bistro. Hasn't changed at all, and still tastes as good as ever. All said and done, a pretty good day, and the main events were yet to come - The Macy's Parade and my doomed unpardonable turkey.
The Snoopy float was as awesome as always, with his red neck-scarf and binoculors. Weather was great, and there were some new floats this year, including a giant smurf and Buzz Lightyear. Heck of a lotta people watching the parade, and it turned into a shriek fest with little girls going nuts over Miley Cyrus.
