A small summary of my trip around Mexico with some friends in 2004 before leaving to Thailand with the Peace Corps

Viva la Mexico

On my way to Mexico, somewhere in California

In 2004 I was substitute teaching while waiting for my invitation to the Peace Corps.  Then a friend of mine I studied with in Australia called in October asking if I wanted to go to Mexico.  He had apparently come to the States and was finishing a YMCA camp later that week.  Since I had nothing better to do and had saved up some money, I said sure and headed off to meet him in San Francisco.  The drive from Washington State was long, but San Francisco was amazing.  We stayed there a couple days and then drove down to stay the night with a buddy of mine in San Diego before crossing the border.

Early the next morning we took off and crossed over into what may be the most miserable and filthy city on the planet Tijuana.  We spent only 1 evening there.  We thought we would do the whole budget trip and ended up staying in some broke down hotel.  Within 30 minutes I had job offers to drive illegals over the border, and a bag of cocaine thrown onto my stomach.  As much fun as that was, we headed off to a slightly nicer guesthouse and enjoyed some Dos Equis before buying our plane tickets to Mexico City for the following morning.
