Beach Paradise
After getting a small group of us together, we headed out for Masunte. This was of course another place I hadn't heard of before. Zipolite was another option known for it's big drug scene, but we opted for this town instead. After being dropped off at the nearest bus station, we found the nearest taxi, which turned out to be someone's truck. We rode in the back for about 30 minutes before being dropped off at a dirt road. We took their word for it and walked down it. At the end we walked onto the sandy beaches of Masunte. This place was amazing, and looked like we had just stepped into a hidden paradise. There were only a few restaurants there, and 2 guest houses to choose from. Not to mention the fact that there wasn't anybody there!!! We pretty much had the run of the place.
The water was crystal clear, the food was amazing, and they even had a ping pong table at the guest house. Downside was the less than stellar accomodation. The one we chose was run by a retired photographer who might be legally insane. We slept in hammocks for about 10 pesos a night, and that included breakfast. But it didn't matter, from our hammocks we had a great view every morning when we woke up. Our days here were spent reading, body surfing, ping pong, watching the fire shows at night, and enjoying the food at the local restaurants. It was the most relaxing part of our trip by far.Just a side note...a guy in our group tried to buy some peyote from a local. He ended up getting ripped off and left waiting inside some random house. Bummer for him, but the rest of us found it pretty amusing.
