Well, the adventure has begun! The first leg of our flight was with Cathay Pacific from Melbourne to Hong Kong. It was pretty cramped and the plane was packed; we were right at the back. The seats didn't recline; instead a portion of the seat slipped downwards. We got a free pair of socks, toothbrush and toothpaste. I watched two movies to pass the time. Breakfast was fruit, yoghurt, a vegetable frittata with tomato concasse, potatoes, a croissant, and apple juice. For lunch I had rigatoni with creamy mushroom sauce, ginger syrup cake, and a Sprite. The food was just average. When we got to HK we got a temporary entry pass to the departure lounge as it was too early to get our boarding passes. We spent ages looking at the shops and wandering up and down the long rows of gates. At 6pm we had to go back down to the transfer desk to get our boarding passes but it was virtually impossible to get back there - we had to be let through staff exits! After that was done we had tea, relaxed for a while on a full-length lounge, then boarded our flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (via Bangkok, Thailand) at 9:50pm, flying Ethiopian Airlines.
