Kivi Milimani Hotel
At 10am our flight to Nairobi took off. Our seats were right over the wing of the plane so the view wasn't great. We passed over Lake Turkana and the Equator on our way down the Rift Valley. We got given a bread roll, chicken with veggies, a chocolate orange souffle and a small muffin. The landscape surrounding Nairobi was a lot more like home (drier and less colourful crops) compared to Addis Ababa. The flight took 1hr 40min and when we arrived we got our visas for US$50 each and went to collect our baggage. Well! Bon's never showed up. We waited for ages then eventually filed a claim with the airline. Who knows where it's disappeared to! The whole process took ages. We then took a taxi with a nice guy called Simon to our hotel, the Kivi Milimani. The traffic was appalling! There were loads of people trying to sell us things along the road as we were stuck in the traffic jam. The hotel is located a little out of the city in a nice leafy area on a hill near all the embassies. We checked in and Bon and I had a room on the 3rd floor - simple and spacious. We tried to have a look around but most areas were blocked off for private Christmas functions, including the pool, the restaurant and all the outdoor seating (!) so that was pretty disappointing. We ended up having a drink and some hot chips in the bar. Dad had a Tusker beer which he said was nice. Had a nap in the afternoon and early evening before heading to dinner at 8pm. Wasn't hungry at all but had a beef burger then headed straight to bed. Asleep by 10pm.
