Foot and Mouth Disease control point
Woke up about 6:45am, got up about 7:15am, packed up my stuff then went to say goodbye to Trina and use the internet. At 10:30am we had a delicious brunch of french toast with baked beans, onions, pasta salad, carved meat, pineapple and cordial. It was great. We then hopped on the truck for the short drive to Botswana. I slept some of the way to the border. The crossing took a fair while as we had to do a drive through a foot and mouth control point - Sammy had to drive through on the truck and have the wheels sprayed and we had to dip all our shoes in an ammonia (?) foot bath which I felt was totally inadequate as not only was it filled with dirt (which usually deactivates the chemicals) but only 1mm deep! Ah well. Crossing the river took forever as the truck had to be loaded onto the ferry which only took 2-3 vehicles at a time.

It was boiling waiting in the hot sun and it was especially bad since I now didn't have my sunglasses (taken from the showers in Vic Falls - if you ever go there, it's apparently the hottest crime-spot of all the campsites across East and Southern Africa, so mind your stuff!). No visa (therefore no money) was required for any of us to enter Botswana. We did meet a Somalian refugee on the 2min ferry crossing; he sold SIM cards for a living. Next stop after the border was the shops, where we got out some Botswanian Pula (P5 = AUD1, P8 = USD1) and I bought a pair of 'Ray-Ban' sunnies for P15. We then drove to our campsite Chobe Safari Lodge where we set up and then went for a much-needed dip in the pool, which was very niceand in front of the bar/restaurant on the banks of the Zambezi. Stayed in til we got cold then headed back to camp where I had the best shower I've had in all of Africa - the facilities were clean and nice, the water hot, and the pressure incredible. For tea we had nice chicken and rice, then I played shithead with Karl, Odin, Tammy and Simon. Headed to bed after a few rounds of cards and fell asleep immediately.
