As I was leaving Area9! That was the sign going in...

*****Sat, Feb 7th - Area9 -> Tekapo*****

More music at Area9 today & man, was it hot out!!!  I had a glass of wine around noon or so & it made me feel so out of it because of the heat!  I hung out for a few more hours & then I decided that I was ready to leave.  I had so much fun checking out the concert & doing the whole camping experience - but I realized I wanted to make my way back to Christchurch for my last couple days.  I also did not really want to be a part of the whole exiting/traffic process leaving the concert on Sunday, so Saturday afternoon seemed like the right time for me to leave.

And more of Tekapo!

I was sad to say good-bye to Chris & Heidi.  Seriously, such cool people...I felt like I was always laughing when I was around them!  They were such great NZ hosts & I'm so glad I got the chance to meet them & hang out with him!  :)

So, I started my drive out of the AREA9 campground & man, my car was disgustingly dirty.  And I guess I matched my car.  It was like I had been at Mountain Camp for the weekend and I had feet that looked really tan...but the "tan" was actually dirt, and not tan at all!  I drove to Tekapo & tried to find a hostel there.  Unfortunately, they were all booked.  That was one thing I didn't think about when I left - it was a long holiday weekend for NZ (Watangi Day) & it was going to be packed wherever I went.

  So, I got back in the car & I started to drive to Fairlie, or the town after that & just thought maybe I'd make it all the way back to Christchurch.  But - as I started driving, I realized that I was REALLY tired.  It was about 5pm & I just didn't want to be driving anymore.  So, I drove back to the iSite in Tekapo & decided to treat myself to a bed & breakfast.  And the beauty of it is that it ended up not costing MUCH more than some of the hostels I've stayed in.  It was SO worth it for me to do that!  I was actually kind of proud of myself for doing that....I didn't NEED to be driving, so I just stopped.  It was nice to relax on the deck at the B & B, take a shower & then go out & get a little sushi for dinner.  The sushi was delicious - but it occurred to me later that I think it was farmed salmon.  Not ideal...but oh well, what can you do?!?

I went back to the B & B & I think I was in bed by 9:30pm.  I think the nights of sleeping in my car & then in the tent with music playing all night had caught up with me!  It felt REALLY good to get in bed early.  My plan was to get up early, go for a run & then make my way back to Christchurch for my last 2 days....I CAN NOT BELIEVE I've been here over 2 months!!!!!!!!  Really really really really hard to believe.
