*****DAY FIFTY-TWO (Fri, Jan 23rd) - A LOOONG DAY OF DRIVING - TE ANAU TO MILFORD TO TE ANAU TO INVERCARGIL*****
I got up early and headed out to do the drive to Milford Sound. I heard the drive out there was incredible & my plan was to just drive out there, hike around a bit, then make the drive to Invercargill.
So, the ride out there was AMAZING. I loved every second of it. The weather was GORGEOUS & I was able to get some beautiful views & pictures at Mirror Lake. I made a couple stops along the way in to see a waterfall here, a gorgeous view there...you know the drill.
Then, the drive after the tunnel down to the sound was nuts. I literally said "Wow", out loud, with only me in the car, about a million times. It's HUGE. It's gorgeous. I think it's being considered as one of the great natural wonders of the world.
So, I drove all the way out here - I figured I should see if I could get on a cruise. I went into the ferry terminal & wouldn't you know it....there was a cruise leaving in a half hour (they do run all the time!) and not only was there room on it....but there were only 10 people signed up for it! It was awesome! I met a very nice couple - Jacqueline & Chedda (like the cheese) & they were fun to chat with & take pictures with along the cruise. It was a quick 1 hour cruise, but it was great to be on the Milford Sound. We saw waterfalls, seals & it wasn't raining!!! Which was very different than the Doubtful Sound cruise. We were actually very lucky that it wasn't raining....I think it started pretty soon after we were off the ship!
After my cruise it was time to start my LOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGG drive back to Te Anau and then on to Invercargill. I think it was a 5 hour drive (but I had just done 2 and 1/2 TO Milford)....so needless to say, it was a long day!
