#31 - driving from wanaka to queenstown
*****DAY FORTY-SEVEN (Sunday, Jan 18, 2009) - SO SAD TO LEAVE WANAKA....WELCOME TO QUEENSTOWN*****
I was so sad to leave Wanaka today. :( Before I left, I drove to PuzzleWorld because I had to get a picture of me sitting on top of the Leaning Tower of Wanaka (questions....ask Erik Mall)....and then it was off to Queenstown.
I had had breakfast with Chris, Heidi, Max...and then other friends of theirs...and their kids at Ardmore Street Cafe. They had given me some suggestions on wineries to visit on my way over to Queenstown, so that's what I did - I had a leisurely drive over there with a few stops along the way:
* Aurum Winery. YUM. I loved all their wines & found out that they have them at Plumpjack in San Francisco.
I will definitely try to find it when I get back there. Oh & it was funny - I ran into two people who did the Wanaka Challenge yesterday (they had on finisher shirts). I congratulated them & we chatted for a bit. I told them I was out there volunteering & they said, "Wait - were you that girl at the top of Plantataion Road?" When I said I was they said that we got a mention at the prize giving ceremony...they talked about the girls at the top of Plantation Road jumping up & down, screaming & cheering. Hilarious!*Mt. Difficulty. I stopped there to have a little lunchie & to get a t-shirt because their logo is a cool version of the koru. :)
*Chard Farm. I stopped there because Heidi highly recommended it.
VERY cool winery. CRAZY road to drive in to get there. I really enjoyed the wines & the experience so I bought some wine to ship back to my parents.*B & B between Arrowtown & Queenstown. I had to stop at a mailbox and leave the bike shorts! How funny is that? Anyway, the bike shorts I borrowed on the bike trip, Noleen had borrowed from her friend that owned this B & B. So, I found the mailbox & stuck the shorts in there. :)
By the time I got to Queenstown, it was POURING! I found the Butterfli Lodge & was so happy to get settled into my room, head downtown (tried to get a lay of the land even though it was raining) & I just decided to do some e-mail checking. It wasn't that crazy of a night - but man, I needed some sleep after my time in Wanaka!
