*****DAY THIRTY-TWO (Saturday, January 3rd) - WOW, DRIVING, & GOLDEN BAY*****
I got a great run in this morning along the water in Nelson. The weather wasn't *that* great & it was definitely windy...but it was so nice to be on the water! After my run, it was time for me to leave. Joy & Larry were so nice and connected me with some friends of theirs in Golden Bay - Sonia & Jim, so I was going to head over there to hang out with them! SO fun! :)
On my way out of town, I got to use my free pass to the WOW museum. I actually had a pass for 2 adults & 3 children so I gave it to a family I saw at the entrance & they paid for me to get in.
Then, I had my first (and only so far - knock on wood!) little car incident. I was driving out to Takaka & there was this little bridge I had to drive over. It had a sign that said that wide cars should be careful. Not that I was in a wide car, but I think it made me a bit nervous. Well, I definitely was driving a bit to my left & all of a sudden I heard this horrible crunching kind of sound & I kind of bounced off the side of the bridge.
So, I got to Golden Bay and drove into Sonia & Jim's driveway. They live in this gorgeous 2 story house in the middle of a farm. My room was SO nice I couldn't believe it! Sonia and I sat outside and chit chatted for a bit & then I set out to do a bit of touring.
I was a little hungry so I went into town to get a wee snack (like that...."wee" snack) & ended up with fish & chips! I think I got a bit too much but I figured it was about time I tried them! And "downtown" Takaka was so interesting.
Anyway, I went out to Pupu Springs & did the little walk there. It's a natural spring that was cool to see - not the most exciting thing, but a good little half hour jaunt. Then, on my way back to Sonia & Jim's house, I stopped on the beach and just sat on the golden sands and watched the sun start to set. It was SO peaceful. I really loved just sitting there with the sand between my toes, breathing in the fresh air. I took a video of when I was sitting there & I know I'm going to be playing it when I'm back in my "real" life to bring me back to that moment!!
When I got back to the Nadler's house they had just had dinner.
I was so excited to go to sleep that night....I had the BEST bed!!! Definitely the things you REALLY appreciate when you are traveling. :)
*****DAY THIRTY-THREE (Sunday, January 4th) - A *GOLDEN* DAY IN GOLDEN BAY*****
Sonia & Jim & I went out to Farewell Spit today. The tippy-top of the South Island and there's a very beautiful white-sand beach out there called Whariki. It was SOOO windy when we got out there! Very fun little walk though and it was nice to spend time with Sonia & Jim -- again, another incredibly warm, welcoming, friendly NZ couple. We got a little bit to eat (Lizzie, yes - I'm still writing about the food I'm eating & showing pictures of it! :)) and had the BEST green-lipped mussells.
After lunch, Sonia & Jim headed home & I decided to go chill on a beach for the rest of the day. I found a nice little spot and just read & napped & walked in the water. It was nice to just hang out for a bit.
THEN, the funniest thing happened. I was driving back towards their house & I crossed this bridge where there were three guys jumping off the bridge into the river. As I was driving by I realized that one of them was NICK! The Oakly's Elaine Bay neighbor. SOOOO random. Seriously, Golden Bay is not very close to Nelson or Elaine Bay & it was SO random that I happened to drive by the bridge and see them. We were cracking up!
After that I went to the Naked Possum Inn to see the rata trees that were in bloom (we had read an article about them actually when I was in Nelson).
