Walking across a bridge in "downtown" Nelson.
*****DAY TWENTY-EIGHT (Tuesday, December 30th) - HANGING OUT IN NELSON*****
Joy and Larry were so kind to invite me to stay with them in Nelson!  I drove in from Elaine Bay today & explored the town a little bit.  I picked up a sandwich and sat along the river!  There is such a great feel about this town.....for some reason it felt a bit like Santa Cruz to me...it's right on the water, there are laid back/surfer type people everywhere and the streets kind of remind me of Santa Cruz's downtown area, just on a smaller scale.  Anyway, it was nice to sit along the river and just hang out for a bit.
I decided I wanted to do an Abel Tasman kayak trip for New Years so I headed over to the iSite (information centers that are EVERYWHERE in New Zealand, it's really great!).  I had a total BRIAZZ moment....the customer service rep I was working with had called a few of the kayak trips and they were all booked up (not a surprise since it was New Years and all)....but then she called Abel Tasman Kayaks about their "luxury" kayak trip & they were able to squeeze me in!!!  I was SOOOO excited.  :)  I was all set to leave the next day for a 2 day kayak trip & would be spending New Years Eve camping in the Abel Tasman National Park.  Woo hoo!!!  :)
