For the first time in twelve years i live in this house we had nest of birds. We build new nest boxes but this family choose an old pot to settle in. After the two in love birds built there nest, it become quiet. We had a quick look in the pot and counted 8 eggs. 8 eggs out of a small bird, how is this possible, but it's normal according wikipedia. After a couple of days we saw the birds coming back with there beak full. As days go by, the little birds become bigger and bigger and the sound out of the pot become louder. The cat hear the sound of little birds to, and normal we don't have cats in the garden, but these days we had a lot of visitors. We love cats but at this moment we had to scare them away to save the birds. Yes this is the real life, nature calls but it felt like we had to help the nature a little bit.
At one moment we where to late and the pot with the birds where pushed of the table and smashed in pieces. The cat picked one bird and ran away, and quick as we can we put the another 7 birds in a bucked. We saw the mother and father bird sitting on the fence with there beak full. We took a another pot and build the nest as good as we can and put the birds back in the new pot. Put it back on the same place and wait inside and hoping that the parents came back. And yes, after a big investigation the birds where flying in and out to feed the remaining kids. Later I secured the pot so the cats will not drop the pot again. The cats where coming back and how the menaced it we lost at least three another birds.
At the end we now for sure that two survived the start of there live, so for next year if they coming back, we try to make the pot cat proof. And the cats??? , we don't see them anymore in the garden, i think till next year.
