We had just passed out from the Business School. With a month of nothing-to-do, it was perfect to explore some unknown parts of India.
Starting from Chennai, we made a road trip on the beautiful East Coast Road to Pondicherry - a little french coastal town in South India. East Coast Road is absolutely lovely. It is as best as it gets in India. A stretch of 160 kms without any major turns along the crystal blue waters of the Bay of Bengal, its the most amazing drive.
First stop was at Mahabalipuram, perhaps the most famous caves, carvings and Indian culture in South India. The Chola dynasty had made a 'carriage' which has been carved into rock. Most beautiful. The surrounding waters just add on to the awe. No wonder it is a heritage site!
Pondicherry is a quaint small little french town with amazing architeture and a great blend of Indian and French cultures. One must definitely visit the Auroville Temple. It is a Massive round structure - i estimate about 100 Metres diameter. Within the round structure, in the center is a small room with a Large crystal ball in the middle. One solitary ray of the sun enters the room and lands on the crystal ball, lighting the entire room. Perfect place for meditation !! Alcohol flows like water and thats amazing too ;)

Gokarna on the other hand is on the opposite end - the West coast of Infia.
It is a little talked about location, like most of the paradise places on earth I imagine. Which makes it perfect. If you want to soak in the sun and the beach atmosphere, this is as good as it gets in India. It is not a mad rush like Goa and it is 10 times more beautiful. Many Israeli and Germans stay for months at Gokarna.
Infact, there is no direct road leading to the beach but one has to walk for about 20 mins to get here. There are a few shacks where one can stay, the better one being Cafe Namaste.
A short boat trip (20 mins by the fishermens boat) is Half Moon Beach and Paradise Beach - they absolutely live up to their name!!
There is a lot that I can talk about this place, but in a nutshell - its a must visit !!
