Continuing our adventure from Queenstown we headed west, towards the ocean, choosing not to retrace the steps we had taken on our way to QT via (crappy) Christchurch. It seemed to make much more sense to just keep going, and end back up in Picton.....the long way round.
Luckily the weather was good, giving us the opportunity to skip town via the Crown Range and straight towards Wanaka. From there we headed towards Haast and the gateway to the West Coast. This drive is incredible..... like so many NZ drives really. The terrain is lushious and green, waterfalls adorn the horizon in every direction. Driving through this part of the country always makes me feel as though ive been transported to the dawn of time....and that civilisation as we know it simply doesnt exist yet. As you carry along up the coast you come arcoss several awesome excuses to stop. The Glaciers being the most obvious, although there are also such things as the Glow Worm caves at Hokitika.
We made it to the Glaciers on this day, and were throughly exhausted by the time we arrived. Funny how sitting in a car, not moving your ass at ALL can knacker you out so bad.
All the same, we slept like the dead, with a plan to explore the glaciers before we set off for Nelson the following day.
