our pool on the 4th floor

We started off the day by abusing the hotel facilities, first stop being the pool on the 4th floor.  It was empty, and we got a few strange looks as we poured ourselves slowly into the water.  I guess it wasnt exactly swimming weather, well not for a aussie, but for a Brit on holiday it sure was!!  The skies were clear again, and although the wind was up, it was still an oportunity not to be missed.  We swam amongst the sky scrapers for an hour before heading back to apartment to prepare for the days adventures.

We set off on foot, via the Botanical Gardens towards the Goodwill  foot bridge leading across the Brisbane River to the South Bank.  I bloody love it there!!  We threw away hours simply wandering the Clem Jones Promanade and surrounding park areas.

We were lucky enough to discover a street market too, where we listened to didaredoo's being played and haggled for a couple of gorgeous magnetic bracelets that would be our 'south bank souvenir'.  The Lagoon itself blew me away, not just because of the beauty, but becuase of the diversity and contradiction of it all.  Here you can sit with your feet resting in the perfect clear water, upon white sand that feels as though as it was always supposed to be there.  You could be on an paradise resort.... surrounded by palms and happy swimmers.  Then you look up, and in the distance you can see the curve of the river and the sky crapers of down town Brisbane.  Its odd..... yet absolute genius!  I think people often confuse Brisbane as a coastal city, but of course, its not.

But with the lagoon in place, it makes little difference.

Somehow we spent most of the day in this area, choosing to make the most of one place, instead of struggling to see little of it all.  Eventually we headed back to Albert Street for a siesta.  A few hours later we ventured out again, heading towards Fortitute Valley, where we finally got a glimpse of the Story Bridge, lit up at night, sparkling like mad!  After another tasty meal and more beer I was well and truely done, and ready to get prepared for the next leg of our adenture.

I went to bed that night a very happy bunny, destination numero uno.....DONE! I loved Brisbane, it was unlike any other city id ever seen, and closed my eyes for the last time thinking how wonderful it would be to see the Pacific Ocean the next day :)
