Getting around
Although the streets are arranged in a logical and neat fashion, increasing in number sequentially. The locals do not use the number system, and will often accept your ride without knowing exactly where to go. So make sure they understand where you want to go before getting into the tuk tuk/taxi/moto. Make sure you bring a map and point it out.
Also like most SE Asian cities you will have to negotiate your fare with the driver. This can be a fun experience at times.
A tuk tuk should be 1 USD for relatively short distances like 2km. And 2-3 USD for longer distances. A moto is roughly half that price, and a taxi maybe double. These are only rough guidlines, so you your common sense.
Just to give some indication of the prices to/from the airport. I paid 3 USD to get to the airport from St. 95 (via tuk tuk) and 9 USD to go to St. 104 (via taxi)

Friendly Guesthouse on the riverside
Well as with most touristy things in SE Asia, it is owned and run by foreigners. I think the name of this place actually gave it away though ;)
There is not much to complain about this place. It is quite nice. Its in a nice location and the staff and management were quite pleasant and helpful. It is on the expensive side of guesthouses in PP though. But that is more than made up in the location.
Our room had a safe and all the amenities you would expect from a decent guesthouse. ie TV, bar fridge, ensuite bathroom, aircon.
One thing to note is that the staircase is pretty steep with narrow steps. So you really have to look where you are stepping.
They serve meals downstairs near the bar, although I never ate there I heard it was quite nice. Not sure if there have a very traditional menu though.
