The picture postcard meadows by Mount Rainier

Well, Mr.Muir was right!

Many years ago, when I'd visited Redmond on a business trip from Dallas, I was bored and wandered into the REI at Redmond Town Centre to kill time. I chanced upon a section of travel and hiking books on the top floor, and the picture that stuck in my head was this clean white mountain with tons of beautiful flowers bordering the almost Alpine-surreal moment. Was it Switzerland? Was it Italy? Nopes, it was good ol' Washington!

But it took me days to figure out where exactly this place was, even though I knew it was *somewhere* in Mt. Rainier park. Fortunately, my ex-neighbours visited this place and uploaded their pics on Facebook. I contacted them imdtly and found out the name of the place in the Mt. Rainier National Park, appropriately called Paradise.

At the start of the hike, I thought it would be chilly
The alpine meadow flowers bloom for a very short window of time, and when they do, they are a tourist's dream come true.  Now was the time to cash in!

I left the apartment early morning around 8am. I had 2 options, either leave the house at 430a (yes), drive for 2 hours and get a parking by the upper level parking (near a Paradise Inn hotel at the foothills of the Paradise trek) or take my own sweet time, park at the lower parking and take one of the free Park shuttle busses. LOL, I opted for the 2nd, quelle surprise!

They have the free shuttle bus schedule on the website, runs for 30 mins from about 10a to 7p which is ample time for a day hike. We were on the first bus of the day (and the origin), so needless to say, it was packed. So much so that the ensuing stops didn't help as folks couldn't board the bus. Upon arriving at the foothills of the mountain, I just knew this was going to be a glorious day: sun was out, people were about, and the bloom! Majestic!
