First leg of the tulip field

I love this festival - even though it's the same ol' same ol' every year, I'm sure it's every photographer's dream. There are about 3-4 spots where they display tulips every year. Last year, I went to Roosengarde, this year, I decided to visit another spot. I've always loved driving through Skagit Valley. It's different from a lot of WA landscapes (not to say the others aren't good), but I love how it's quite "Swiss" in a way that you have the plains (uncut grass, bold yellow and red wildflowers) and impromptu ponds and lakes along the way right by the highway, and then a few miles into the distance, one can see the Cascades and the signature coniferous trees.

The idea was to go on a sunny Sunday, infact I did head out but was stuck in traffic (1 mile away from the exit) for over an hour I turned back.

I figured if it were this hard to be able to exit, then imagine the rush at the spots themselves. With that said, I returned on Tuesday and focussed on Tulip Town this time. The roads to the fields are not very well marked. It doesn't matter on weekends (just follow the leader), but is a pain on weekdays when the roads are sparsely driven on and you have to find your way. Thankfully they have a tourist office (I love that about WA unlike TX, every tiny town has a tourist office!) where they give you a map on how to get there.

Tulip Town is every inch the tourist trap - infact as you walk in, you're first greeted by a tulip showcase, with paintings and tons of tulips on sales (and not just that, but other ceramics and stuff as well) before you can walk out to the field. There's a chocolate store as well, LOL! But once you're on the fields, it's amazing. I liked this more than Roosengarde because it felt more "manageable". In the sense, it's not just rows and rows of the same colour, but various colours interspersed kind of giving it a more multicoloured look.

oh my.. you've just given me another reason to plan that long overdue trip to the northwest. I'm going to be there for this next year, for sure!
