Oswiecim/Auschwitz
Our last day in Krakow before our flight going back to Oslo at 9:15 PM.. I managed to convince all of my co-workers to join me for the day in Auschwitz. There were 2 who wasn't too sure before we left for Krakow but they came around and they don't regret going either even if it was one who was "celebrating" her birthday. Different place to spend your birthday but a memorable one i should think.
As usual i was up early and had eaten my breakfast , checked out and stored my lugage. Everyone seemed to be so slow in the mornings but fair enough its vacation time haha... We had all agreed on meeting at 11am but i went to check out transportation for Auschwitz and realized the train leaving at 11:06 am would be a problem to make since the next one left at 1:06 PM. I got a hold of 2 of them and told them about it. They were afraid they wouldn't make it on time so i got talking to a Polish person who drives tourists around for some cash of course. I thought and still believe we got ripped off even if it wasn't a lot of money in the long run but i am against over paying no matter where i am in this world:)
The others didn't seem to mind so they agreed on 65 slotti per person which i am a 100% sure of someone else would have charged for 3 people in ONE car. I guess they were just too tired to let me hussle for someone else hahaha. I am sure i could have found a cheaper deal and i'm sure someone reading this agrees with me :)
Well, he and his friend drove down to the hotel with me and waited for the others. Once we all got into the cars he drove around Krakow showing us where the Schindlers list were filmed and where they had walked during the movie. He also told us all about the history of Poland and why the farmers owned such large houses as well as why they didn't have morgage on the houses. He spoke so much i almost got dizzy haha.. and i can honestly say i don't recall half of what he was talking about. When people speak too much i might fall out of a conversation and just say yes and nod a little:)
Once we got there we agreed to meet at the last stop for Auschwitz and would drive us back. It was raining pretty bad while we were in Auschwitz and the wind almost knocked us over haha...Once it was over he picked us up and drove us around to the memorial place which was pitch black around this time but we still got to see a great deal more that the guide didn't take anyone of us on due to the bad weather. Also our driver told us about other parts around the area that were included in the Auschwitz history. The three red bricks and the place where they had brought Russians for exection and so on. A very interesting journey indeed and highly recommended. I will add the photos as soon as possible from Auschwitz so hold :)
