The coastline!

Today, Erin and I decided to take advantage of those gorgeous beaches you hear about along the French Riviera.  We asked the front desk what beach they would recommend, and they gave us a map of a few of the best beaches to go to including some of the lesser known to tourists.  We decided to go to Cap D'Ail, the beach they most highly recommended.

So, now our AMAZING luck with public transportation continues.  Our first mistake, we didn't get off at the right bus stop for the train station.  There was a lot of construction going on at this time so the bus routes weren't exactly what they are supposed to be.  Once we realize we missed our stop we decide to just stay on the bus until it loops back around - mistake number 2.  Apparently the buses don't go in a full circle.

We reach the end of the line and the bus driver is saying something in French (neither of us know French), and we get the feeling we're supposed to get off (as he waves us off the bus).  So here we are.  Some where in Nice.  No clue where the nearest train station is.  So I decide that we should just walk.  We come across a woman at a sidewalk cafe and ask her if she speaks English.  She doesn't, but somehow with gestures and pictures she tells us how to find the train station.  We are so relieved and we but our tickets to Cap D'Ail.

We're waiting for our train, and one comes but it's early, we get on it anyway - mistake number 3.  It was going the right direction and everything the only problem was it didn't stop at OUR stop.

Cap D'Ail
We got off in Monaco and took a train from there to the correct station.

We made our way along the rocky coast line, down steps and then back up only to go down more.  We turn around a corner and we finally see the beach!  There are beautiful umbrella shades out and lots of people laying out, relaxing on the beach.  My only complaint was that the beach was pebbles and not sand.  Today was the perfect day to spend relaxing in the sun especially after everything we went through to get here.  We were getting a little hungry and wanted to splurge so we ate at one of the little restaurants on the beach. (bring your own food if you don't want to pay a lot)  We both got a caesar salad and just sat in the shade watching all the people walk by.

Lunch :)

On our way back to the hostel we didn't have as much trouble.  We did get off at the wrong stop, but it ended up being close to our hostel anyways (just not as close).

That night we decided to stay at the hostel again and spend it with all the fun people we had met the previous night.  We found out that Greig and Ben were going to Barcelona next, just like us.  Actually, it seemed as though everyone in the hostel was headed for Barcelona next.  We met some of the new people that arrived that day and had a great time just hanging out.  So, we went to bed to prepare for a full day of sightseeing.
